Beckham makes his debut, Galaxy possibly doing badly

David Beckham finally made his league debut last Thursday for his new team LA Galaxy. “League” of course being the MLS or Major League Soccer, which I always think is an odd name for a sports league, as it sounds like the words are in the wrong order.

Coming on for only the last 20 minutes of the game, Becks couldn’t help Galaxy and they went down to a 0-1 defeat against D.C. United. Last night they suffered another 0-1 loss, to New England Revolution. (Why are they undergoing a revolution??)

These two results don’t leave LA Galaxy in very good standing. At least, I don’t think so. I’ve tried looking up the league table, but all I can see is that they’re second from bottom in the Western Division according to the MLS Standings. There’s two separate tables! What’s that all about? Better yet, there’s a team called Real Salt Lake. Hmmm, gotta love those real ones. (Or perhaps it’s “re-yal” Salt Like, like Real Madrid. Classy.)

Latest US News: David Beckham Not Superhero Robot

Wait a sec…can a superhero also be a robot, or vice versa…?

*Cough* Oh right, that’s not the main issue!

David Beckham has still yet to play a full game for his new team LA Galaxy, and the Americans are annoyed! His only outing so far has been a 12-minute spell in a friendly game against Chelsea, and since then he’s only been warming the Galaxy bench. At recent games, fans have held up signs and worn shirts proclaiming, amongst other things, “David Beckham is rubbish” (they must’ve thought long and hard about that one) and “Bench it like Beckham” (too funny!). He’s expected to be back to full fitness in the next 10 days.

C’mon people, he’s a footb…sorry…soccer player! He’s bound to be injured some time! Anyway, the fans should really reserve their opinions for after he makes his proper debut. What if he’s getting paid all those millions, playing…but actually kind of crap?

Coleen’s 21st Birthday – Wayne Hires Lookalikes of Him & Her

The ultimate gift for your loved one’s 21st birthday? Why not hire lookalikes of her and yourself, as Wayne Rooney did for Coleen’s big bash on Saturday night.

No, only joking! Amongst the “celebrity” guests (i.e. Wayne’s team-mates, plus a few WAGs and their partners) were Coleen’s cousin Carly and Wayne’s younger brother Graham. The pair have been dating for a year.

And don’t they look startlingly like their more famous relations? If you squint your eyes a bit…

FA Cup Coverage will suck from August 2008

ITV (plus pay-TV broadcaster Setanta Sports) have acquired rights to show FA Cup and England home games from August 2008, in a £400 million, four-year deal. So, naturally, prepare for piss-poor presenting, annoying commentry, average analysis…oh, and ad breaks, of course.

I know that certain sporting events (World Cups, Olympics etc) are required by law to be shown on terrestrial channels. But can’t they go one better, and make terristrial channels be the BBC only?? Having the FA Cup Final on ITV just isn’t right.

Flintoff Drinks, Borrows Pedalo, Falls Into Sea

News of the World reports that Freddie Flintoff went on an eight-hour drinking session with some of his England team-mates after their defeat to New Zealand in Cricket World Cup. In the early hours of the morning, he decided to grab a pedalo – the ultimate choice in transportation for real men – and drifted out to sea before capsizing and having to be saved. He’s been dropped for England’s second game against Canada. Considering that he was out first ball, perhaps it’s best all round!

I’ve tried my best to make it sound like I know anything about cricket. I know even less about pedaloes. Drinking, on the other hand…
