Baby Ginger Spice throws pre-flight tantrum

That’s the baby of Ginger Spice, not a ginger Baby Spice, which would be Baby Spice with dyed hair…of course.

On Monday Geri Halliwell’s daughter, Bluebell Madonna, threw a tantrum at Los Angeles airport prior to a flight back to the UK with her mum. The tot, who’s just under two years old, threw a strop at security at LAX. I know the feeling, love, the security workers always just shout at you, don’t they?

Luckily Mummy Ginger Spice calmed her daughter down quickly and it was soon all smiles.

Reports that Bluebell Halliwell is to give Naomi Campbell tips on flying are as yet unconfirmed.

The Spice Girls: bad at planning

Spice Girls

Yes, we’ve all heard by now, the Spice Girls are not going to do some of the remaining dates on their world tour. And it’s nothing to do with Mel B & Mel C falling out, or Mel C wanting to quit in case it hurt her career, or Posh wanting to quit music entirely and concentrate on fashion…or anything sinister like that. No. It’s because of “family and personal commitments”. Hmmm. If so, why schedule a tour in the first place? In a video they’ve released, Posh states:

We have children, they need to go back to school and we always said our families were our priorities.

If your families are your priorites, don’t put on a tour in the first place! Or have their familes only become so important to them in the month of February?

But yes, do please put your children back in school. Except for the babies. That’d be cruel.

Oh, and above is the hilarious screen-cap from the video that The Sun have chosen to illustrate their article. What’s that alien doing in the back, on the right? And is that a labrador on the left-hand side? It’s got amazingly human-like paws.

Spice Girls Tickets Still Available

Spice Girls

Are you cursing yourself for not getting tickets to one of the the Spice Girls’ London shows at the O2? Well, you shouldn’t. Because there’s still plenty of seats available! Despite a sell-out show on their opening night in London on Saturday, the Girls seem to have slightly overestimated demand. There were visibly empty areas of the arena for the Sunday’s show, and upcoming gigs aren’t sell-outs. (Well, I ask you, seventeen shows in London in total? Slight overkill!)

I’ve just done a check for seats on Ticketmaster…and I can buy tickets for tomorrow’s show (yes, TOMORROW) for what looks to be a variety of absolutely prime positions! (Floor seating, right in front of the “catwalk” bit of the stage; lower tier seating to the left of the stage…the list goes on.)

One thing I was surprised to learn, however, was that tickets are on sale for a rather astounding £75 each!

THEREFORE! Don’t waste your money! Get on to Ebay and nab a pair there, as tickets for some January gigs are going for well under face value. I’ve just seen a pair of lower tier tickets go for £102 – that’s nearly £70 under face value!

And that’s my top money-saving tip for today. Do tune in for more tomorrow.

The Spice Girls Have Landed

The Spice Girls

The Spice Girls are home! Well, if they consider “home” to be the O2 Arena, a.k.a. The Millennium Dome, in Greenwich, southeast London. On Saturday night they performed the first of seventeen (SEVENTEEN!) dates at the venue that will run from December 2007 to January 2008. By all accounts, they didn’t disappoint their British fans, which included one or two celebs – like David Beckham (okay, so he’s practically at all their concerts!), Gordon Ramsay and, erm, Rihanna. The concert was the first time the girls had performed in this country as a five-piece since 1998, when Geri Halliwell walked out shortly after a gig in Birmingham. Yep, Birmingham can do that to you.

Emma Bunton was still suffering slightly, following a fall in their last concert in the United States which resulted in her twisting her ankle. Designer Roberto Cavalli, who designed all of the girls’ costumes for the tour, made Emma a pair of special boots and some sandals so she could perform. You go, boy!

Pointless Programming

I don’t watch much Channel Five. (Or simply, “Five”, as it now wants to be known – I suppose it’s a bit like P Diddy becoming just “Diddy”.) I think there’s a reason behind that. But yesterday I succumbed in order to watch 30 Rock, and subsequently saw an advert for a programme next week called The Spice Girls on Trial. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

This documentary will apparently analyse the Spice Girls’…

“contribution to popular culture, combining interviews with key witnesses like former manager Chris Herbert with contributions from a range of diverse commentators, including Germaine Greer and Peaches Geldof”

Oh my God!! What does uber-style icon Peaches Geldof think of the Spice Girls??? I finally get the chance to find out!! My life is saved! *cries tears of joy*

Furthermore, the programme will analyse whether…

“the tabloids’ constant reporting of the Spice Girls’ lives [can] be seen as the starting point of today’s celebrity-crazed culture”

Errr, this sounds a bit like a school project. Maybe it is someone’s school project? Like some Chief Programmer at Five has just stolen his daughter’s Media Studies coursework?

Best of all, ladies and gentlemen…wait for it…there’ll be a live viewer’s vote so we can give our own opinions! Hurrah!

The Spice Girls back where they belong!

Spice Girls concert, Vancouver

Where’s that, you ask? Why, on stage, silly!

15,000 fans – and David Beckham – saw them perform the first concert of their comeback tour at the GM Place in Vancouver, Canada. They apparently wow-ed the crowd with 22 songs, costume changes (including outfits harking back to their 90s personas), impressive backing dancers and several solo stints. Hmm, all you need for a great concert, eh? I guess the point is that their concerts will provide great entertainment, but you may not necessarily enjoy them if you’re expecting highly technical singing and mind-blowing dancing. (And why oh why would you expect that with the Spice Girls?)

So, no doubt, their comeback tour will be a huge success. I’m not entirely sure about some of the costumes, designed by Robert Cavalli. (see above) Posh looks a bit like she’s dressed in a futuristic outfit, as imagined in a 1960s space drama. And poor Sporty! Did Roberto Cavalli refuse to design for her? She looks like she’s got her gear from New Look!

Not a great start…

Spice Girls

The Spice Girls gave their first live performance for…ohhh, centuries…Thursday night at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Despite massive hype, the Girls failed to sing live and only performed two songs – old hit Stop and new song Headlines (Friendship Never Ends). They had nice costumes, though. Honestly, people! You can’t ask too much of them! They’ve been out of action as a 5-piece for nearly ten years, you can’t expect them to look good AND dance AND sing.

The girls then gave a second performance in two days for Friday night’s Children in Need fundraising event. Goodness, TWO performances in TWO days?? That’s quite a workload! The jury’s still out on whether they sang live then either…methinks probably not.

Spice Girls Announce Two More Dates in London

 Spice Girls in the 90s

Well, okay…so I don’t really see the attraction of going to a Spice Girls concert, but apparently thousands do. Two more London dates have been added to their tour – on 15th & 16th January, bringing the total of dates in the capital to fourteen! The concerts at the O2 will be spread over December and January.

I suppose well done to them? Or maybe Victoria just fancies living in English pad for a bit, so has begged everyone else in the band to extend the London residency. And then went back to say “no honestly, David, we’ll need to be there for at least four months – they love us over there! Oh wait, my Blackberry’s just told me we’ll be doing five months, FIVE MONTHS of concerts. Look, why don’t you just give up football, eh love?”

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, 6th October, from 10am, and can be bought from Ticketmaster.

P.S. Ahh, looking at the above photo really takes me back…to a much more innocent time, when life was all about peace signs and Union Jacks…and Geri dressed as a transvestite…

Really? Are You Sure?

Spice Girls

Tickets for the Spice Girls concert in London, on 15th December, have sold out in 38 seconds this morning. Apparently, over 1 million people pre-registered for the tickets and new London dates have already been added to the bill. I simply don’t understand! Who are all these fans?!

In other Spice news (in case there are actually some fans out there), rock-god Bono is set to write a track for the girls, which will appear on their greatest hits album, due to be released before their tour commences.

“Scary” Debuts on Dancing with the Stars

Scary Spice, aka Mel B,  made her debut on Dancing with the Stars last night – that’s the US version of Strictly Come Dancing. (Thankfully, they still have Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli as judges, but have done without Arlene and Craig…yeah, who needs those two LOSERS?! I joke, I joke. They’re not losers, they’re…alright…)

Best bit of this video is her explanation of her previous dancing days in the Spice Girls: “It was all just step dig, step dig.” What kind of a move is that?? Are you trying to say you girls didn’t have much dancing talent? And interesting to see she’s still working the leopard print outfits, I wonder if she’s just reusing one of her costumes from 1997. But fair play to her, she looked good both dance-wise and looks/body-wise.
