Gigs

Someone’s asleep at the BBC…

Yes, okay, so I am very sad for having noticed this…but what can you expect?!? I’ve just spend several hours at my computer, blogging!

In their report of Live Earth being honoured for its green credentials, BBC News seem to think that Dave Grohl performed at Live Aid. Which was held in 1985. Which would have made him 16 at the time. Having said that, his biog does claim he was in bands at the time. But I certainly don’t remember either Freak Baby or Bain Dramage being on Live Aid’s epic bill…

Live Earth Up for Green Award

Live Earth

News reaches us that Live Earth, last year’s epic music event held in eight different cities across seven continents, is to be honoured with an environmental award at the Midem event in Cannes, which is apparently the “world’s music market”. (What’s that?) Along with the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, and the Paleo Festival Nyon of Switzerland, the Live Earth concerts are to be honoured with a “Greenie”. Not really. But that’s totally what the awards should be called.

Live Earth may have raised environmental concerns, but I’m pretty sure it caused more harm that good. I mean, flying all those musicians and celebs over from wherever they live? Getting Razorlight to sing at lunchtime because they had to jet off to Scotland to perform at a festival there? As a dramatic point, switching off all the lights at Wembley Stadium for a few minutes and then turning them all back on again? Could we not have just had a Live Earth “day” where everyone did their utmost to recycle, not use electricity etc? (Before, of course, ahem, continuing in this vein forever….) Still, it was nice weather and the Foo Fighters rocked.

Spice Girls Tickets Still Available

Spice Girls

Are you cursing yourself for not getting tickets to one of the the Spice Girls’ London shows at the O2? Well, you shouldn’t. Because there’s still plenty of seats available! Despite a sell-out show on their opening night in London on Saturday, the Girls seem to have slightly overestimated demand. There were visibly empty areas of the arena for the Sunday’s show, and upcoming gigs aren’t sell-outs. (Well, I ask you, seventeen shows in London in total? Slight overkill!)

I’ve just done a check for seats on Ticketmaster…and I can buy tickets for tomorrow’s show (yes, TOMORROW) for what looks to be a variety of absolutely prime positions! (Floor seating, right in front of the “catwalk” bit of the stage; lower tier seating to the left of the stage…the list goes on.)

One thing I was surprised to learn, however, was that tickets are on sale for a rather astounding £75 each!

THEREFORE! Don’t waste your money! Get on to Ebay and nab a pair there, as tickets for some January gigs are going for well under face value. I’ve just seen a pair of lower tier tickets go for £102 – that’s nearly £70 under face value!

And that’s my top money-saving tip for today. Do tune in for more tomorrow.

The Spice Girls Have Landed

The Spice Girls

The Spice Girls are home! Well, if they consider “home” to be the O2 Arena, a.k.a. The Millennium Dome, in Greenwich, southeast London. On Saturday night they performed the first of seventeen (SEVENTEEN!) dates at the venue that will run from December 2007 to January 2008. By all accounts, they didn’t disappoint their British fans, which included one or two celebs – like David Beckham (okay, so he’s practically at all their concerts!), Gordon Ramsay and, erm, Rihanna. The concert was the first time the girls had performed in this country as a five-piece since 1998, when Geri Halliwell walked out shortly after a gig in Birmingham. Yep, Birmingham can do that to you.

Emma Bunton was still suffering slightly, following a fall in their last concert in the United States which resulted in her twisting her ankle. Designer Roberto Cavalli, who designed all of the girls’ costumes for the tour, made Emma a pair of special boots and some sandals so she could perform. You go, boy!

Shambolic Gig

Every so often a news headline comes along that shocks you to your very core. It puzzles you. It unnerves you. It gives you the goddamn heebie-jeebies:

BBC News Babyshambles

Babyshambles have fans?? How? Why? In what way did they come to exist?

WAIT A MINUTE…! Babyshambles actually perform music? I always thought it was just Pete Doherty ambling about, taking lots of drugs and either not turning up to, or going to court appearances where he always manages to escape any kind of sentence. Oh, and selling his story about how much he loves Kate Moss.

But they’re an actual band? Wonders never cease.

Ha, but if you read the article, it transpires that the fan got to sing on stage because Pete didn’t turn up. Figures.
